Yorkshire Gardens Trust
About the collection
The Yorkshire Gardens Trust Archive comprises 10 boxes of records relating to the establishment and running of the Trust, as well as project work and publications.
The collection contains a large number of slides and photographic material, some of which is available online through the University's digital library.
The papers are not yet catalogued but are still accessible by booked appointment in our reading room.
Why it's important
The archive documents the restoration and preservation of parks and gardens across Yorkshire, including species recording and historical research.
It includes information on the Trust's work to secure the archive of horticulturalist James Russell, and the regeneration of Stainborough Park at Wentworth Castle.
Also part of the archive are the extensive papers of Philippa Rakusen, noted horticulturist and former Director of Gardens at RHS Harlow Carr.
